Course structure
SDR is structured into six themes: TEXT, FIGURE, IMAGE, OBJECT, SPACE and LIGHT. Within each theme, concepts and subjects derived from different areas of knowledge are put into relation. These relationships are built throughout lectures and learning activities carried out individually and in teams. The activities are carried out using a variety of media, digital and analogical. The subjects included in each theme are summarized as follows:
TEXT
Analysis of the contents of manifests of the modern avant-gardes and their relationship with contemporary architectural debate. Representation and communication of the reflections about modern and contemporary architecture by means of essays, vocabularies, motion text, and blogs.
FIGURE
Fundaments of color theory. Interaction of shape and color in two-dimensional compositions. Abstract and concrete painting. The form of musical and painterly compositions (synesthesia). Perception of form as structure or Gestalt. Composition systems.
IMAGE
The concept of image in its aesthetic, philosophical, technical and cultural sense following the approach of Visual Studies. Perception and representation of urban space and the architectural object by means of the photographic image. The city as image: visualizing and constructing urbanscapes. Visual and associative thinking with photographic images. Photomontage as communication tool.
OBJECT
Construction of three-dimensional objects: interplay between material, technique and form. Interaction between form and space: sculpture vs. architecture. Formal languages: line, plane and solid. The structure of form in nature and art. Form as generative process.
SPACE
The different conceptions of space in art, science and philosophy. Space as extension vs. space and experience. The representation and construction of space with the language of the animated image (film, video). The social dimension of space: analysis and representation of the lived space.
LIGHT
The relationship between light and space. Light in the physical sense (as energy), and conceptual (as knowledge). The representation of light and space in painting. Light as material in art and architecture.
